10 Of The Best Statement Chairs

top 10 statement chairs

Have you seen the front cover of Living Etc magazine this month? It completely caught my eye as it features two beautiful statement red velvet bespoke chairs from The Sofa & Chair Company against a beautiful grey-blue wall (painted in Scree by Little Greene).

These bespoke red velvet chairs are a really bold and not an overly obvious choice of armchair, but they work so well. They instantly draw the eye and are the hero pieces in the room.

If there are two things that I MUST have in a room to completely raise its game, it is statement lighting and a statement arm or occasional chair. The braver, bolder colour the better! A thick, luxury fabric like velvet makes it all the more special; while it also being a very cool shape - such as a wingback or a clam - ups the design stakes.

There are some great statement chairs out there right now available in a range of price brackets. Some you can customise in terms of fabric, feet colour and studs - others come as seen. Here is my pick of 10 of the best:

I love this modern wingback number by The Sofa & Chair Company called The Monroe. The wide curved back will provide the ultimate head rest comfort whatever angle you sit while reading a magazine or watching TV. The cushion in matching fabric which makes up part of the chair creates an extra depth, while the pointy armrests and tips give a contemporary edge to an otherwise retro, Hollywood glamour design. All upholstery by The Sofa & Chair company is done in London. Price depends on choice of fabric and wooden legs.

One day this Atkin & Thyme Calvin Armchair will be mine! It comes in blue and teal but my favourite is this lemon yellow. The fabric is velvet and linen and it costs £399.

Blush pink with gold legs - this chair graces most of the top name interior mags. I'd team this chair with The Gibson blue velvet sofa for a winning sofa / statement chair combination. Calvers + Suvdal sell this for £449.

I recently saw this chair in the pop-up apartment currently in the middle of John Lewis Oxford Street. The colour of the chair is a stunning midnight blue. It is a pricey £999.20, but a total investment piece.

Available in a choice of 26 colours, it was the bright orange that spoke to me for this Quin cocktail chair by Swoon Editions. £369.

Modern Classic - Greys(9).png

A brilliant budget option at £109.99, this Lola chair from My Furniture has the edge over the rest due to the pink piping on the blue.

If you are a regular reader of this blog you'll know I love this chair from Sweetpea & Willow! This clam shell chair also comes in pink, but this bluey teal with gold legs steals my heart. Again, it is expensive at £1089, but there is nothing else like it out there!

OK, so there seems to be a bit of a theme here with me choosing a lot of velvet chairs with gold legs, but this number from Audenza is really classy and would never date. £642.

The Made.com Frame armchair is already turning into a bit of a design classic. I prefer it in a more subtle black to the more popular pink and green option. £599.

This is a great chair by Marks and Spencer which has a bit of a Kirkby By Design feel to the look of the fabric. Available now for £279.
