10 Of The Best Sideboards

10 of the best sideboards

A large cabinet or a sideboard can be a tricky purchase. First of all, it has to be the right piece as it will be a large dominating piece of furniture that won't be interchangable from room to room like rugs or lighting can be. They also tend to be expensive, so it's crucial that you choose the right sideboard first time. The trouble is, Google 'sideboard' and you are presented with a lot of oak or pine monstrosities. There never appeared to be a lot of choice when it came to getting a well-designed sideboard, so often there is a reliance on picking up a vintage G-Plan on Ebay. Yet in the past year I've seen some amazing sideboards become available. Here is my pick of the ten best sideboards that you can purchase now, either online or in-store:

A bold choice, this Ziggy sideboard from Swoon Editions has a complete metallic gold front. I've seen this sideboard in peoples home on Instagram and it looks incredible, but this is a sideboard that won't shrink into the background so think carefully that it will fit in with the rest of your decor before purchasing.

Of course if anyone is going to have some beautiful sideboard options available it's West Elm! This one here, the Audrey, is my favourite.  The doors have a mesh like pattern which is sunken to give the sideboard texture. It is also available to purchase in white.

This sideboard from Argos is a fantastic budget option. It comes in this nice grey but what is letting it down are the drawer knobs. Don't use these knobs - buy some special, gorgeous brass knobs from elsewhere and this unit will be transformed. The great thing about this option is that it is really slimline so is great for an area like a hallway.

An absolute price blow-out at 7k, but if you do have 7k to spend on a sideboard then this is the one to buy. I saw this piece by revered designer Bethan Gray at London's Design Junction Festival earlier in the year and fell in love.  Also available in other colourways.

This M&S number has been around since the spring, but it is an amazing choice. Considering the time of year, keep an eye out for it to go in the sale after Xmas.

If you are looking for a lighter, more Nordic look, then this number from Atkin & Thyme is a good choice.

Atkin & Thyme have some great sideboards, so much so I've included two of their pieces in this top ten. I like this option as the raised wood has an edgy yet not 'in-your-face-and-out-there' design.

I love this sophisticated sideboard from Houseology. The parquet doors make it interesting, while the dark wood means that the long length of the sideboard does not come across as dominating.
