The unseasonally good weather we have had this February has made me languish for spring even more than normal. When the New Year begins I always feel that I am just waiting for new buds on the trees, for daffodils to push out the ground and a sign that warmer times are ahead. One of the best ways to anticipate for spring is by freshening up your home with a few new decorative pieces that can help you embrace the season via your decor. All the colour and scent of spring is so enjoyable, why not bring it indoors?

One of the best ways to add a touch of spring is to take some small delicate vases filled with bright (and cheap - daffodils are one of the cheapest bunches you can buy) flowers and dot them around the house. By doing this, you instantly brighten up dark corners and add colour and freshness in unexpected places. These incredibly budget-friendly Mini Botanical Jars by Grand Illusions, pictured below, are only £1.95 each and can be used to display a single stem or a more gathered bunch. Here, I have placed these small jars in the corner of a window in my kitchen: the bright single stem anemones brighten up this corner on even the darkest days as we come out of winter.

If you fill these ornamental jars with a more accumulated collection of blooms, then they are the perfect size to place on a bedside table or dresser. You do not want a huge vase of flowers in a room as functional as a bedroom, but this vintage style botanical jar looks perfectly casual and elegant. The head of the jar is thinner than the base which means that it can hold smaller, delicate flowers upright and securely, rather than have them flopping over the side of the vessel as the stem is cut short. Fresh spring narcissus will also give your room a powerful, natural fragrance.

These jars are only 14cm high and 7cm wide, so they are perfect to add in rooms that usually get ‘forgotten’ when it comes to styling. I’ve popped two of the mini botanical jars on the shelves in my bathroom to add some vibrant colour, but they would also work well placed on the sink or on a bathroom storage unit:

If I asked you to pick a colour that you associate with spring, chances are you would say ‘yellow’. Yellow conjures up thoughts of daffodils, the sun, baby chicks and is a warm and vivid hue. A great way to connotate a spring decor scheme is to therefore add in a small amount of yellow. I could not resist this Paris Shopping Bag by Grand Illusions with its woven yellow detailing. The bag is lined and is really light, making it the perfect spring / summer bag for sunny days out. I hang this Paris shopper up on hooks and door knobs in my home as it is the perfect styling accompaniment in a hallway or kitchen.

I’m an absolute sucker for spring cherry blossom, but as the blossom is only transitional until the leaves grow it is impossible to have cut stems in the home without the petals going everywhere. Cut Genista (also commonly known as ‘Broom’) in its pink form is a great alternative to create that ‘cherry blossom’ look and has a really heavy scent. Alternatively, faux cherry blossom is a great option to create that really desirable ‘spring foliage’ look. Both Genista or faux stems of cherry blossom are long and need supporting in a tall, thin necked vase. This Ribbed Green Vase, below, is perfect to hold and support long stems and the deep green-teal colour is completely on-trend in home decor this year. I love how the vase has an aged feel to it without being overly rustic in style. In fact, the rib detail makes this vase quite contemporary. You can purchase this vase in two sizes, with it being a very reasonable £21.50 for the large from Grand Illusions.

The vase really complements my blue walls, while at the same time really stands out against a more neutral, grey wall colour. Other great spring flowers that would work well in this vase include tulips, peonies and alliums.
