Easter Decor Idea: 5 Simple Tips To Create Your Own Easter Tree
Every Easter, I always put up an Easter tree display in my window at home so that I can hang all my pastel eggs and create a little festive focal point. This seasonal decoration constructed mainly from tree branches is rooted within German tradition (known as Ostereierbaum), and celebrates the arrival of new life and spring after winter has passed.
Choosing the right branches for an easter tree
When I put together my Easter tree, I tend to use a mix of the following:
A couple of faux cherry blossom stems to add a floral touch (but where the blossom doesn’t drop after a few hours!) You can get it for around £3 per stem from Dunelm.
A couple of natural twisted willow branches (pick them up in florists or at flower markets). These have a fantastic spiral shape that adds a lot of visual interest.
Some cut tree branches from my garden or local area, because it’s budget-friendly!
The right vase shape is important
As the branches are long and will have to support the weight of decorations, choosing the right vase to display them in is important; you’ll need a vase with a wide base that won't topple over, combined with a slim neckline that will support the stems upright (rather than letting them droop over the side). My favourite vase to use (pictured above) is this seahorse handle vase by Anna + Nina.
Mix and match your hanging decorations
While an Easter tree tends to hold decorative eggs, mix and match your decorations so it’s not all the same thing. I love to add colourful, clip-on birds to the branches, and I will also tie and drape lots of pastel ribbon around to make it more joyful.
Every year I'll collect one or two more Easter decorations to add to my tree. I love buying hanging easter decorations at Søstrene Grene and H&M Home, while I’ve also picked up a few Easter gems at the local garden centre.
Make Your own Easter decorations to keep it budget-friendly
Seasonal decorations can be seen as wasteful as they don’t get used throughout the year, but you can keep costs down by crafting your own Easter tree ornaments. This Easter, I’ve made paper decorations in the shape of tulips, while I’ve also created my own pressed flower egg decorations. Simply click the below links to be taken through to my tutorials.
Adorn the base of your Easter tree to make it a focal point
I love to add a few extra ornaments around the base of my Easter tree just to make it a key focal point in my home for the holiday period. I’ll add small woven baskets bull of mini eggs or decorative eggs, as well as ceramic ornamnets and marbled eggs that I’ve picked up at vintage fairs.
I hope you find these tips helpful if you plan to do your own Easter tree!
