10 Of The Best Blue Paint Colours Tried & Tested By Interior & Home Lovers
I’ve been a huge fan of painting rooms in my home blue for over ten years. However, I’ve often been asked how I choose a blue, because for a long time blue had a bit of a bad rep of making a room feel cold. I think that common misconception is less now as we’ve seen blue interior schemes increase in popularity in the past few years with ‘blue and burgundy’ being a whole interior colour pairing, and blue and brown now being one the key colour combos for 2026 (think blue walls paired with tobacco-coloured sofas).
Regardless of colour trends, I’ve always said that it is the shade of blue that you choose that makes a room feel warm or cold - with deep green-based blues actually warming up a room and making it feel inviting - as well as the shade being striking and a great backdrop for furniture and decorative items.
Over the years, I have tested out a lot of blue sample paint tins - my loft is full of mini blue paint pots - so I thought I would share ten of my absolute favourite blue paint shades.
Oval Room Blue by Farrow & Ball
My go-to blue, this blue shade is an absolute dream and once people discover it, it becomes a firm favourite. A historic blue with real depth, it looks great when used on a front door and on interior woodwork.

Celestial Blue by Little Greene
This is the blue that I painted three floors of my house in and I get asked about it all the time. What I love about this blue was that it was really hard to find a blue that worked in all lights (the hallway basement of my home got little light, while the top landing got loads of light) and Celestial Blue just worked in both bright sunshine and artificial lighting. It’s warm in grey light and it’s not vivid in direct sunlight, so I find it the perfect ‘all-rounder’.

Dix Blue by Farrow & Ball
One of my favourite all-time blues. This has very strong green undertones, so is really warm in a sunny room and works well as a strong wall colour.
Dix Blue was the colour of my living room before I wallpapered it with a mural.
Teal by M&L Paints
I painted my front door this colour a few years ago (in the full gloss) and I still get asked about it to this day, even though it’s been two further colours since then! While I tend to go for green-based blues, this colour is void of green and is instead a blend of yellow and blue pigments.

Trinity Blue by deVOL
I’m obsessed with deVOL’s blue kitchens, and now you can buy the ‘Trinity Blue’ paint colour that they paint them in as a seperate woodwork paint! It’s just the most gorgeous seaside blue that will transform kitchen cabinets and built-in furniture.

Edward Bulmer’s Cerullian Blue
Now, I haven’t used this shade personally, but an interiors friend did in her bedroom and it was just the most gorgeous colour for softening a space.

Dunelm Ashley Blue
This is such a brilliant, budget-friendly blue! I’m a huge fan of Dunelm paint as it’s such good quality for the price; I used this blue in my son’s room on a wardrobe and I was so happy with it!

Stone Blue by Farrow & Ball
I always come back to this blue when I want a blue that packs a punch without being too dark or cobalt. Stone Blue by Farrow & Ball is a striking blue, but at the same time isn’t overwhelming. It looks so good on interior doors or trim and in small spaces.

Benjamin Moore Oceanic Teal
The ultimate seaside blue! This teal almost glimmers and feels like a ‘holiday blue’. It pairs so well with baby pinks, oranges, yellows and tan colours.

Graham & Brown’s Breathe
The name of G&B’s Breathe is just perfect, as the paint feels like a deep breath of fresh air. Soothing, calming and natural in tone, it’s a great blue that works well in multiple spaces.
