Whether you are looking to replace your entire kitchen, or simply tweak the one you currently have to make it more modern, the good news is that the top 5 kitchen trends for 2020 are actually quite achievable. I’ve noticed these 5 trends in the most desirable kitchen imagery of late - from high-end glossy magazine shoots to Instagram homes - they provide a consistent formula to an on-trend kitchen for 2020 and are mostly quite simple to install, affordable, plus some can even be DIY’d!

Decorative Hanging Strip

Eye-level cabinets in kitchens remain out of fashion and in its place comes the decorative brass rod or peg rail to hang cups, pots, and anything pretty. If you have space, have the rod or rail span the width of the kitchen. Or, erect on bland, blank wall areas to add visual interest.

Marble Splashback

One of the most desirable looks for 2020 is a veined piece of marble as a splashback, running the entire length of the worktop. While most people avoid marble worktops as they stain so badly, a splashback doesn’t get worked so hard in a kitchen and it can be placed on top of a stain-resistant ‘marble look’ Minerva or Quartz worktop, blending the two materials.

After the popularity of light wood and specifically ply kitchen cabinets in 2019, 2020 is all about the dark wood. Dark wood has a more chic and sophisticated look than its more casual, light counterpart. Pair dark base units with light walls to stop the wood feeling overbearing.

Color-shock Islands

First came the kitchen colour-trend to paint your base units in a different shade to your top units - with a lighter colour above eye level and a darker one below. For 2020, the kitchen unit colour-trend is to give your kitchen island a huge injection of eye-popping colour, totally separate to the more muted tones found elsewhere in the space.

All you need to create this look (apart from, obviously, a kitchen island) is some time, a tin of paint and some good primer! For heavily pigmented, vibrant paint shades look to Little Greene or Zoffany Paint.
