5 Green Kitchen Design Ideas And Inspiration

I’ve been frantically pinning multiple images of dreamy kitchens to my ‘Extension’ folder on Pinterest due to my forthcoming renovation plans. One common theme that I’ve noticed has been a tendency to lean towards a splash of green within a kitchen scheme. Rather than typically navigating towards green kitchen cabinets, I’ve actually been looking at splashes of green within the kitchen in a less obvious way.
Green is a lovely colour to include in a kitchen due to its organic, comforting appeal; so, here are five ideas on how to include green in a kitchen space without using it on the units.
Paint your window frames green
I’m slightly obsessed with a painted green window, especially if the window is looking out onto trees or a hedgerow. Green works perfectly to frame the view of the outside world and elevates the window as a key feature within a kitchen.

Paint the inside of your cabinets green
While I said this post wasn’t about painting the kitchen cabinets green, a less obvious idea is to paint the inside of a cabinet or pantry green for a surprising and joyful backdrop. This works particularly well with open cabinets or cabinets featuring glass doors. I recently painted the inside of my sitting room bookcase a vivid shade to the outer carcass and I loved the effect - it totally upped the drama of the built-in!

Green kitchen seating
Bring green in via the seating within your kitchen. Thrifted wood chairs painted in strong emerald green tones are a budget-friendly way to lift your entire kitchen design scheme, while a kitchen banquette upholstered in a green fabric can be transformative within a neutral kitchen to elevate the finished look.

Add a statement green island or a standalone pantry cupboard
If you want to add a decent amount of green into a kitchen but you are nervous about painting all the units, opt for a statement green island or a standalone green cupboard or a pantry. This mix of neutral with a strong green tone is a safer compromise than going all in with Farrow & Ball’s ‘Sap Green’ or Little Greene’s ‘Hopper’. Balance out the mix of green by featuring green accessories or houseplants in corners or on shelves in the lighter painted areas.

Add a tiny touch of green with a painted shelf or green picture frames
If you choose a rich, leafy green, painting small objects within the kitchen in this colour (a small shelf or a picture frame works well) can have a lot of impact. You can also add green by displaying green enamel cookware, hanging green plates (the popular cabbage plates work well) or art on the wall.
