13 of the best places to buy modern rugs for all budgets

I’ve always found rugs one of the hardest elements of a room to source and get right. As the core base layer of a design scheme, your rug will tie everything in the room together. When choosing the right rug for your living room, kitchen, bedroom, or hallway, there are many aspects to consider: a rug that is too dark or where the pattern is too busy can drag down a space, while a rug that is too plain or too light will do nothing for the room. You also need to make sure that you select the right size rug and that the material is suitable for where it is placed (thicker when providing a cosy layer in a living space, hard-wearing for a high-traffic area). Rugs can also widely vary in price, so you need to be certain that you aren’t purchasing an expensive mistake.
The good news is that there are a lot more modern rugs available on the market than there used to be; many range in budget, from high-street to mid-price to high-end. So, today on the blog, I thought I would list my top 13 places to source modern rugs online.
Bombay Sprout
Bombay Sprout first grabbed my attention when they collaborated on a collection with one of my favourite interior designers, Laura Stephens. A bright and bespoke collection of hand-woven jute rugs in Laura’s signature colours of blue, green, pink and plum, each rug is made to order so you can pick your preferred size and customise your colours.

I’ve always loved the Jute Border design, as I think it makes a great rug for under the kitchen or dining table. While their popular Folding Ribbons pattern has adorned many of the best Instagram Homes.

La Redoute
La Redoute has always been my go-to for good quality, great-value rugs. They are always up-to-date with the latest on-trend colours and design patterns. I especially love this red check indoor/outdoor rug; they also offer scallop-edge designs for a great price.

Ruggable
Leaders in washable rugs, US brand Ruggable have an excellent history of successful collaborations that include Sanderson, Iris Apfel, Jonathan Adler and AD. Ruggable rugs have a removable soft top that can be placed in the washing machine, making them a popular option in hard-working homes full of children and pets. They also do quite a few ‘edits’ on their website where tastemakers highlight their favourite designs, enabling an easier search through the extensive catalogue available.

Dunelm
Dunelm is an absolute gem for great rugs and budget-friendly prices, especially for kids’ bedrooms. I’ve put their Elements Wave rug in my son’s room, and I have their Churchgate Walton Wool Rug in my husband’s office - it looks a lot more expensive than I actually paid for it!
