How To Host A Wimbledon Watch Party: Tennis Table Setting Styling & Ideas
With the Wimbledon final just around the corner, you may be throwing a garden party or hosting a dinner for the event at home, so I thought I would share some of my favourite ideas for styling a tennis-themed table.
Wimbledon has a real British aesthetic which can be really fun to embrace during a summer of sport: cucumber sandwiches, a glass of Pimm’s, or juicy British-grown strawberries can all be included, so here are some ideas on how to present them when hosting:
Centre Court
To start, I want my table to scream ‘tennis’, so I’ll try and replicate Centre Court. For a table runner, I'll use a strip of faux grass, and I’ll place a couple of inexpensive tennis rackets over the top that serving bowls and dishes can be placed upon.
For the table cloth, think green! I do love a deck chair stripe, which is quintessentially British and ties into the Wimbledon theme.
Accessorise with cheap Tennis Balls
You can dot these around the table, place one on top of each napkin on a dinner plate (write on it with Sharpie for a place name idea!), or fill up a glass vase of flowers with tennis balls at the base to accentuate the theme.
Focus on serveware
Rather than serve your scones or sandwiches on a flat plate, elevate your table setting by presenting items on tiered stands or footed serveware to make everything more elegant (the one I use is a botanical-printed one from Portmeirion). Why not also pop on a few mini Union Jack toothpick flags!
The Perfect Pimm’s
Wimbledon and a glass of Pimm’s go hand-in-hand, so make sure yours look as good as they taste! I like to use diamond-cut highball tumblers for my Pimm’s, which I adorn with striped paper straws and strawberries placed around the rim (simply make an incision half way up the strawberry at the base so that it hooks on to the glass).
Make a tennis racket wreath
Welcome your guests at the door and set the tone of the event with a simple tennis racket wreath. Simply thread some faux flowers through the strings and tie to your front door or garden gate with ribbon.
Invest in a Portable Projector
Projectors have come a long way, and you can now buy high-quality portable projectors to stream the matches from your phone if you are hosting a garden party outside. If you don’t have a screen, draping a white sheet works just as well!
