I’ve spent a lot of time recently considering kitchen cabinet paint colours for my own ongoing kitchen extension and renovation. The colour of the cabinets will determine the mood of the kitchen space and dictate the type of flooring, tiles and fabrics I’ll have in the rest of the room, so it’s a decision that I am not taking lightly! Here, I’ve listed six colours which are currently sitting at the top of my ‘kitchen cabinet colour list’ along with a number of kitchen colours making waves in the world of interior design:

Butter Yellow

Butter yellow kitchens have been popular for a few years now and with good reason: bright, uplifting and welcoming, a butter yellow kitchen creates a happy and joyful space as well as having a timeless appeal.

Off White

Off white remains one of the most effective choices for creating an airy kitchen that won’t date. A white with undertones of red, brown or yellow will create a warm rather than stark kitchen and can be lifted with colour via adding an island in a warmer hue, or by including natural wood flooring within the space.

Fresh Greens

Soft sage, muted olive, and delicate eucalyptus greens work particularly well in kitchens, where they complement natural materials or abundant daylight and establish a subtle relationship between indoor living spaces and surrounding gardens or landscapes. It’s also a colour that works well with timbershelving, handcrafted ceramics, or living plants.

Before undertaking extensive upgrades or considering the cost of kitchen remodel, consider if you can add in some green with some simple touches, such as painting in the window frames or using kitchen cupboard paint for an instant refresh.

Pale Blues

Soft sky blue, powder blue and muted duck egg shades gently reflect daylight while adding subtle personality; unlike darker blues, these restrained tones avoid overwhelming smaller spaces.

Blue pairs beautifully with brushed nickel hardware, white quartz worktops, as well as light oak flooring.

Brown

I’ve seen a huge shift towards brown kitchens which add a deep, statement colour, without risking the shade going out of fashion. Kitchens painted in Farrow & Ball’s ‘Cola’ or Paint & Paper Library’s Scarlet ‘n’ Rust feel both chic and modern.

Pink

I’m slightly obsessed with a plaster pink kitchen, although it’s crucial to get the right shade of pink to stop the kitchen from looking too sickly sweet. A pale but dusky hue that feels grown-up and sophisticated can create a feminine, vintage in style space that’s both elegant and tasteful.

While choosing a kitchen paint colour isn’t always easy, a bright and welcoming kitchen is rarely the result of a single dramatic colour. Instead, it emerges through carefully considered palettes and design choices that work together to enhance light, comfort, visual harmony, and highlighting key architectural details within the space.
