If your home is looking a little tired or if you are a bit bored with the decor, you don’t need to do a complete room makeover or a total revamp to freshen it up. Instead, making just a few small updates and doing a couple of improvements can have a positive impact. Here are six quick and easy ways to revive your home in order for you to fall back in love with it.

Spend Time Redecorating with Plants

Adding houseplants can turn an empty, bland corner into an interesting area full of detail. Try adding a tall Fiddle Leaf Fig in a self-watering pot to your living space to add character to the room. Make sure that it gets lots of sunlight so that the plant grows quickly, and gently wipe the leaves with a damp microfibre cloth to dust them.

Real houseplants will improve the air quality within your home and boost your mood, but if you travel away a lot or don’t want the responsibility of keeping your plants alive, the quality of faux flowers and plants has dramatically increased in recent years. Try adding pots of faux ferns on a shelf to add a warm touch of green, while fake orchids are great to use within bathrooms to add an element of nature, imporoving the look and feel of a space.

Clean & Declutter

Cleaning and decluttering any room which feels overbearing and like it has got out of control will instantly give the impression of a larger space and will result in you feeling calmer and less stressed. To start, take as much as possible out of the room so that you can give the room a deep clean. Wash any carpets or rugs, making sure to dust all the walls and the ceiling. Once you have a clean base, consider the furniture that you are going to put back in the room; play around with the layout and see if a different arrangement from what you had previously works better. Place back into the space only the items that you love or use regularly. If you’ve not used something for over six months, you don’t need it, so donate it or discard it instead. For everyday items, make sure that you have enough storage and organisation baskets and containers to keep everything categorised and easy to locate.

Replace tatty Window Treatments and soft furnishings

If you notice that your curtains, blinds, cushions, throws or rugs are faded, frayed, stained or excessively worn, now is the time to replace them. Grubby soft furnishings can really bring down a decor scheme; if they cannot be washed or repaired, invest in new home textiles. Unless you would prefer made-to-measure window treatments or bespoke rugs, there is a wide range of soft furnishings available these days to suit all budgets. Try and source thermal-lined curtains and high-pile rugs within your budget to trap heat and help improve energy efficiency within your home.

Upcycle your existing Furniture

I will forever talk about the power of paint and how transformative it can be to turn an unloved item into something on-trend that reflects your taste and style. If you are bored of your existing furniture, upcycle it with a single tin of furniture paint. Furniture paint is so good now that you don’t even need to prime or sand your existing piece before giving it two coats of your chosen colour. Why not go even further by glueing on some decorative strip moulding to add detail, or using leftover wallpaper to add pattern on the inside of cabinets and drawers?

Apply Fresh Paint to your woodwork

Your doors, skirting and kickboards can get grubby over time. You may not notice shoe or hoover marks until you take a closer look, but by simply giving your woodboard a quick fresh coat of paint, your room will instantly feel cleaner and brighter.

Update Hardware

One of the best ways to revive old kitchen cabinets or a tired wardrobe is to update the hardware. Replacing the hardware within a room can be more transformative than you’d think, and it’s a simple job that can be done with a single screwdriver. Add whimsical charm with vintage handles and knobs, or modernise with sleek and sophisticated brass or chrome drawer pulls.
